Bodywork for Chronic Pain and Injury.

Dealing with pain can have a huge impact on your life, particularly if you have been coping with it for some time. Pain and restriction can limit your ability to exercise and enjoy the things that you love doing. It can also reduce your energy levels and affect your mood and emotional well-being. It can often lead to further injury if not dealt with, as the body adjusts and overcompensates for the pain.

When your body is out of balance, whether it is due to injury, repetitive strain (RSI), scar tissue, poor posture or the physical effects of emotional trauma, it can lead to restrictions and adhesions within the soft tissue. These can develop over time and lead to pain either at the sight of dysfunction or in other areas of the body.

My aim is to release these adhesions and restrictions so that your body can return to its natural, normal state of well-being and function. I can also give advice on home-care to prevent your body from returning to its old ‘unwanted’ pattern.

I use a blend of advanced massage and bodywork techniques, including Myofascial Release, Sports Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Advanced Clinical Massage and Dry Needling (Medical Acupuncture), to treat your pain. This powerful combination of bodywork, coupled with deeply guided intuition, leads to effective results.

Bodywork for Transformation

Bodywork for Transformation blends a unique and powerful combination of advanced massage and bodywork techniques. These can include: Myofascial release, Integrated massage (including Sports Massage), Medical Acupuncture, Hot Stones and Acupressure.

This blend of incredibly healing techniques is combined with deeply guided intuition, restoring the body to its natural state of balance, vibrancy and energy flow. Every treatment is different, as every individual is unique.

Bodywork for transformation works with the idea that we can carry  patterns and stagnant energy in the body that can inhibit our ability to move forward in our life. This may be due to past trauma, grief, disappointment, deep hurt, a lack of confidence or self belief, or anything else that may prevent us from living the life that we desire.

The aim is to release stagnant energy stored within the fascia and cellular memory, promoting flow, well-being and transformation.

Sports Massage

Sports massage therapy helps to alleviate the stress, pain and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity. Where minor injuries and lesions occur, due to overexertion and/or overuse or postural imbalances, massage can break them down quickly and effectively. Above all, Sports Massage can help prevent those niggling injuries that so often get in the way of performance and achievement, whether one is an athlete, keep-fitter or a once a week jogger.

This treatment is not just for the sportsperson: anyone can benefit from Sports Massage, including people with musculoskeletal pain, perhaps from a physically demanding job or those with occupational, lifestyle, emotional and postural stress.

Sports Massage tends to be deeper and more intense. It is based on the various elements of Swedish massage and often incorporates a combination of other techniques involving stretching, compression, friction and trigger point release techniques similar to Acupressure and Shiatsu. Bringing together this blend of techniques, as well as knowledge and advice during and after treatment, Sports Massage can lead to very effective recovery, enhanced performance and injury-free training and lifestyle.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release (MFR) is used for the effective treatment and rehabilitation of soft tissue and fascial aches, pains, tension and restrictions.

Myofascia is the connective tissue (fascia) in and around muscles (Myo = Muscle). Myofascial Release is an application used to alleviate tension, restrictions and adhesions in the Myofascia in order to restore balance and function. Myofascial Release is generally used at the beginning of the treatment with no or little wax or incorporated into the majority of the treatment to get effective results.

Dry Needling (Medical Acupuncture)

Dry needling (Western Medical Acupuncture) involves the insertion of fine needles into the muscle; Dry Needling is an adaptation of Chinese acupuncture (TCM) using current knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology, and the principles of evidence-based medicine.  Medical Acupuncture needles are carefully inserted into the ‘Trigger Points’ within a muscle to release tension and pain. Clients often report having a feeling of relaxation during the treatment and that they can ‘feel’ the Medical Acupuncture needles working, even after they have been removed. This leads to positive recovery results.

Electro-acupuncture

Electro-acupuncture is a form of acupuncture where a small electric current is passed between pairs of acupuncture needles.  Medical Acupuncture Needles are inserted into specific points along the body. The Acupuncture needles are then attached to a device that generates continuous electric pulses using small clips. These devices are used to adjust the frequency and intensity of the impulse being delivered, depending on the condition being treated. Electro-acupuncture uses two needles at a time so that the impulses can pass from one needle to the other. The aim of Electro-Acupuncture is to reduce your pain.

Trigger Point Therapy

A Trigger Point is an over-contracted area within muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body.

A Trigger Point in the back, for example, may produce referral pain in the neck. The neck, now acting as a Satellite Trigger Point, may then cause pain in the head. The pain may be sharp and intense or a dull ache and because the head is shouting the loudest, you may not realise the source of pain is coming from your back.

Trigger Point Therapy is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. The results and benefits of Trigger Point Therapy is releasing constricted areas in the muscles, thus alleviating pain.

Trigger Point Therapy can really help with decreasing pain and is a natural, drug-free way of managing pain and stress. The good news is that you can learn to do Trigger Point Therapy on yourself, it is simple, easy and effective.
